Anxiety Medication Update
About two months ago I started on anxiety medication after being off of it for a year. I didn’t really want to start them again, because I hate the side effects. I never found one that didn’t give me intense side effects. But, the medication is definitely something I need. It was very rough for me not being on anything.
My doctor prescribed me 10mg of Citalopram (to take daily) along with 20mg of Propranolol (to take as needed). When I first started the Citalopram, I did have some side effects: dry mouth, exhaustion, etc. The dry mouth seemed to last forever and actually got worse when I got Covid. I was almost to the point of telling my doctor to switch my medication, but I stuck it out and I am glad I did.
The side effects have basically went away. There are still days when I feel extra tired, but nothing I can’t handle. I have only needed to take the Propranolol once when I was having a really bad anxiety day. Otherwise, the 10mg of Citalopram has been working wonderfully. That’s not to say I never feel anxious, because I do. But, it really takes the edge off and makes it where I can function like a mostly normal human.
I am glad I made the decision to get back on the anxiety medication.
I’m so glad it worked for you & you stuck it out. Side effects are tough!!!!
I also love you’re sharing. More people need to hear how many people are on these meds to make it so normal!!!!
Mental health matters!!!
Thank you! I agree – mental health needs to be talked about so it’s not so stigmatized!
